KD7VKZ Tilt / Pan / Head / Wiring

Now we join the elevation and azmuth assemblies, and do the wiring.

52

52

Both mechanical assemblies ready for joining.

53

53

Bolt the two castings together, running the wires. I had to drill an extra hole for the additional wires I am adding.

54

54

Another view.

55

55

This cable assembly is all new. It contains two video cables, two shielded control cables for the focus pots and wires to power two cameras, and control one lens. Note the bracket the wires are wrapped around. It is all new construction, and is based on a similar bracket found in the original azmuth cable twist.

56

56

Test fitting the wires

57

57

Mounting the bracket using existing tapped holes.

58

58

Adding heat shrink tubing to keep the cable assemblies neatly wound.

59

59

Wrapping the wires around a piece of 1/2" copper pipe while shrinking to set the shape the wires prefer to be in when installed.

60

60

It looks something like this before heating.

61

61

And this after it is done, with the pipe removed.

62

62

Cable installed from the inside.

63

63

And the outside.

64

64

Wire one limit switch.

65

65

Wire the other limit switch.

66

66

Carefully dress the wires and tie them down so they cannot be damaged by the moving parts withn the cabinet.

67

67

Connect the wires to the azmuth pot.

68

68

Mount the azmuth pot and start to dress in wires. Note the cable twist bracket and stem in the azmuth shaft opening.

69

69

Another view.

70

70

Install the heat shrink

71

71

Shrink it around a copper pipe the same as was done with the elevation cable twist.

72

72

Slip the twisted wire through the azmuth shaft.

73

73

Mount the wire in place.

74

74

Cable seen from the bottom of the mount.

75

75

Base attached with wires in place.

76

76

Close up of the top cable coming out the elevation shaft.

77

77

Preparing the connector box for the elevation mounting plate. Note the holes in the plastic box that allow clearance to the mounting bolts, and the holes drilled and tapped in the arm for mounting the box.

78

78

Connector box attached to arm.

79

79

Run the wires through the wire hle in the box.

80

80

Mount the arm.

81

81

Strip and tin camera power and lens control wires.

82

82

Install a 15 pin mini-D connector for the camera and lens cable.

83

83

Plug in a lens to verify the connections.
